The Westermark Monthly Baronial Meeting, June 9th 2011
In Attendance: Baron Joel the Brewer, Baroness Custodia de Montemor, Linda of the Lakelands, Paul, Beatrice de Bourgogne, Casarea die Lugnerin, Michael, Ida Kniepenwirten, Erik, Bridget Walker, Robert, Elizabeth, Dafydd MacNab, Aurelia D’Oussant, Bennent, Aasa Thorvalsdottir, Giovanna, Sabrina, Will, Sally, and Josh.

Baron: Joel the Brewer – Defers spiel.
Baroness: Custodia de Montemor – All’s well.
Seneschal: Ida Kniepenwirten – All’s well. Val to be warented as deputy shortly.
Exchequer: Casarea die Lugnerin – Desperately needs a deputy. Michael volunteered. Hooray!!! We currently have $1738.72. We need fund raisers. Also, we have an unexpected Direct TV charge to our account of $90. This one is definitely an error, and Casarea will be working to fix it.
Herald: Aasa Thorvaldsdottir – If anyone is in need of consultations, please let her know so that she can be sure to be at Ida’s on the 3rd Thursday of the month to help you out.
Constable: OPEN Turns out we really must fill this position as it is a required office. Dafydd MacNab (Robert’s Daddy) volunteered. Hooray!!! Will work on acquiring signatures for warenting at June Crown.
Marshall: Baccus Kaloethes – Not in attendance.
Chronicler: Bridget Walker - Has investigated the SCA Chronicler’s handbook and discovered that a Barony must have a newsletter published at least quarterly. Proposes that we keep ours on-line to avoid charging money, and that we keep the content to the monthly meeting notes and event announcements in order to avoid copyright issues. This will make it dull, but get us into compliance. It will also provide a platform if anyone does want to publish real articles later. Hope to have this up and running by the end of the summer quarter.
A&S minister: Aurelia D'Oussant – Art’s night on 1st & 3rd Thurs. every month, still at Ida’s house, 7pm-10.
Aurelia also needs a deputy. Reminds us that Sabrina is the new Principality A&S minister. This weekend is Kingdom A&S at Ed Levin State Park. Aurelia, Sabrina, and Aasa are all teaching. Aurelia suggests that her laundry class could be very useful for those interested in competing at the Laundry Day competition at October Coronet.
Chatelaine: Linda of the Lakelands– All’s well. Received a number of contact requests at Maker’s Fair. Suggests that in the future we write out folks e-mail for them, so that we will be able to read them later.
Gold Key: Ida Kniepenwirten – All’s well.
Webminister: Joel the Brewer – Deputy Webministers – Pietro del Gato & Linda of the Lakelands All’s well.
Archer: Beatrice de Bourgogne – Bea to run the Vinhold Archery Championship at their Maneuvers event on the 25th. The office comes with some really cool regalia: a pith helmet and a really big quiver. Also, Beatrice will be stepping down as the Baronial Archer as it is not a required office in order to focus her attentions elsewhere.
Financial Committee – Will meet after if there is business.
Item #2: Maker Faire 2011
All three days went well and we received a lot of contact requests. Cynthia of Southern Shores is interested in increasing their participation next year. It’s suggested that we could do something more kid focused as there is not much for children at the Faire.
Item #3: Westermark Madness
Date is confirmed. Autocrat Jen Rahn / Giovana . Ed Levin Park Spring Valley site is reserved. Baron Santiago of Darkwood (work party coordinator), states that we have enough banked hours to pay the majority of the fees. That would leave only a few hundred dollars which could probably be paid on Sunday after we’ve collected donations. The theme has now shifted to Lost at Sea/Tempest/Shipwrecked Madness. (Baron Joel had suggested a Super Hero Madness, but that didn’t receive much support. Lady GaGa Madness was openly booed.) Ideas include a “Three Hour Tour” bardic competition using the Gilligan Island theme song, and a cooking competition in which folks would have a list of unusual ingredients that must be included in the dish (published in advance, NOT provided by us). Copy for the Page is due by the end of the month, and our web site to be updated with event info as soon as possible. Next planning meeting is the 1st Thursday of August at Ida’s.

Item #4: Westermark’s new Pavillion
Decision made to order the tent directly from Panther. This will cost us the 20% discount, but will avoid the odd payment terms and get us our tent much faster.
Item #5 Vinhold Baronial Maneuvers
Vinhold is in preparations for a 2nd instance of its new event. We are trying to de-emphasize our involvement this time around, and encouraging them to make it more of an open kingdom war practice instead.
Baron Joel has been in contact with Melissa the autocrat, and emphasized to her that Westermark attendance at this event will likely be low. Cloondara and the OddBodkins may be there to represent us, but it would be best if this event were to be a Kingdom War Practice rather than a Westermark/Vinhold competition. With the AnTir war approaching, a War Practice could be a good thing.
Item #6: Taxes
Taxes are due this year in October. Will address this next month.
Upcoming Events
Kingdom A&S June 11-12 (Ed Levin Park, Milpitas)
June Crown June 17-19th (Duncans Mills, along the Russian River at the Cassini Ranch)
This is at a brand new site, which is supposed to be nice. Bridget and Dafydd might be the first Westermark folks on site. Will try to reserve a block of land. Use the email list to communicate how much space is needed. Also, Dafydd may have extra room in the trailer if anyone wants to bring something big. There will be an A&S display, documentation cool, but not required, so come show off your stuff.
Baronial Maneuvers June 25th Vinhold Hosting at the Napa Skyline Park
West/AnTir War
BoD Meeting, July 9th Milipitas There will be a BarBQ for the populace that evening. West Kingdom is likely to put in a bid for the upcoming 50 Year celebrations.
