Shipwreck Madness!

September 16th-18th 2011

in the nearby and scenic Ed Levin Park, Milpitas, California

Flying machines, seige engines, and time travel! Put on your thinking helmets and attend Westermark Mad Science Madness. Competitions will include the Markee Bardic Competition and a Machine Build-off along with fighting of both heavies and rapier. Come see who will be the new Westermark Thug and Baronial Rapier Champion! Saturday night will be a pot-luck dinner with meat provided by the Barony. Bring side dishes to share. There will also be an auction and all the traditional attractions such as Carve the Baron's Likeness in a Root Vegetable, Fizzball, and the triumphant return of Pie the Baron and Baroness! Come one, come all, enjoy the madness. 

Site Information:

The site will be at Sandy Wool Lake Group Area in Ed Levin Park in Milpitas, CA. Site opens at 3pm on Friday, closes at 3pm on Sunday. We have decided not to charge a fee but donations to help defray our expenses will be cheerfully extorted… er… accepted. Our pavilion gave up the ghost, and we are making efforts to raise money for a replacement.

 

Directions:
Traveling on either Interstate 680 or 880 Take the Calaveras Road exit in Milpitas. Drive east towards the foothills along Calaveras Road. Calaveras Road passes through the southern portion of Ed Levin Park. Once you get in to Ed R. Levin Park, take the first left onto Downing Road (it will be marked with SCA signs). Keep going past Old Calaveras Road, and the Sandy Wool parking lot will be on your 2nd right.

Directions from the Barony of the Westermark:
101 South to 237 East, this winds through Milpitas and becomes Calaveras Road. Drive East towards the foothills along Calaveras Road. Calaveras Road passes through the southern portion of Ed Levin Park. Once you get in to Ed R. Levin Park, take the first left onto Downing Road (it will be marked with SCA signs). Keep going past Old Calaveras Road, and the Sandy wool parking lot will be on your 2nd right.

The Dinner on Saturday night will be a potluck.
SCA First Name:
A-G -bring a side dish
H-L - bring a salad
M-S - bring a savory/ Main dish
T-Z - bring a dessert

Schedule

Friday

Site opens at 3pm for setup.
Dinner is "Bring your own Feast!"


Saturday

Opening court: 10:00am with Rapier fighting, contests, and activities beginning immediately following.


Rapier fighting: The Faux Pas 11:00am - 1:00pm Our friends, the Shire of Cloondara will be hosting the rapier competition Pas d'Arms that was tragically cancelled due to flooding this spring.


Day Activities

  • Carve the baron's likeness in a root vegetable.
  • Shipwrecked Cooking Competition.
  • Sideboard for Populace and Fighters and Edible Exhibition
  • Silent Auction opens at 11am and closes 3pm. We take cash or check.
  • Children's Treasure Hunt! (Results displayed in Baronial Pavilion at 3:30pm)


Lunch Break from 1-2pm (or immediately following the Rapier Scenarios)


Heavy fighting will begin one hour (60 minutes) following the conclusion of the Faux Pas to allow refreshment for fighters competing in both styles.

Water Balloon the Baron and Baroness


Evening Court and Potluck Dinner. Court will begin at 6:00pm (or following the balloonings).

The Dinner on Saturday night will be a potluck, held during Evening Court. For each person partaking of the potluck in your party, we ask for one dish that will serve 8-10 people. The Barony of the Westermark will be providing meat of some sort, and here is the breakdown of what to bring:

SCA First Name:

  • A-G - bring a side dish
  • H-L - bring a salad
  • M-S - bring a savory/ Main dish
  • T-Z - bring a dessert

Part of a bbq will be available for you to heat up or prepare your dish if needed.


Evening Activities

  • Cannibal! Shipwrecked-themed assassin game. Adults only!
  • The Markee. The Theme for this year is "Three Hour Tour", to be in ballad metre (think: The Gilligan's Island theme).


Sunday

Morning Court 10:30am. "Sardines" morning court.


Morning Activities

  • The Enemy of Love! Come watch the final bout of the Faux Pas to see who can defeat the enemy of love!
  • Numenarian Brick Toss. Throwing the bricks is a serious and dignified competition for which you are judged both on style and distance.


Afternoon Break Down and....Fizzball!

Site is closed at 3pm.
