Baroness Mary Elizabeth Fairweather of Priors Hardwick
Baroness Mary Elizabeth Fairweather of Prior's Hardwick

Madness in Wonderland: July 28-30, 2000

The Theme: 'Through The Looking Glass', loosely based on the novel by Lewis Carroll, held on a bright sunny weekend at Bort Meadows, Lake Chabot Park, Castro Valley. Viscount Chad Bitor was Autocrat, Crystal of the Westermark was Pseudocrat, Micheila McCallum was Senecrat, Randel O'Gallchobhair wasChiurgicrat.

Fighting included: Buzkashi w/ baah resurrection, Immortals, The all-new Wonderland theme "off with their heads" tourney (hosted by the Queen of hearts herself!), Troll melee, Baronial Thug Triathalon: Shastan Melee with odd weapons, Mass Weapons and Poetry round robin, Off Handed Grand Melee.

The result of the Triathalon was a tie between Frederick and Colin (Colin won two, vs. Flieg who won one, but got a bonus point for fighting bravely with the Baronial Sheep in the Shastan Melee.) The tie was to be decided by the poetry contest, which this time was declared to be "lullaby for the na-Baron". At this point the fates intervened, and both Flieg and Colin turned out to have independently decided to use the same exact tune for their entry, and so, we now have a double thug.

The previous thug provided Alex with a lovely lullaby based on "drunken sailor", and actually was presented with his regalia before he passed it on.....

Games included: Tablero (for which Krysta provided a keg o' cider, but rumour has it she was dethroned as the current champion by Randel), Mah Jong (courtesy of the free folk of whopping on Thames, or some such name for the denizens of the BC), Challenge Croquet (for which the Baronne excelled herself in setting up an insanely difficult, confusing and fun game), Pok (played for hours and hours under the shade of the big tree), also, the Shire of Crosston sponsored a "sit under the Crosston pavilion all day and drink and eat and listen to stuff" contest.

"Come see the new Baronette" was also very well attended. The Numenorian Brick throwing and Grovelling contests were cancelled due to inertia and lack of time, and for some reason, we forgot to run the "Shoot the Baron" contest....

Crown Princess Ossa attended, gracing our court with her presence. Also King Jade showed up in time for the Markee. The final event was the Markee competition, which was very entertaining indeed. The theme was "If you don't have an entry planned, plan to be badgered by the Baron until you do something even if it's at his expense". The entries were: Mini-commedia from Crosston & Sir John, The Troll Song and Dance, Cool songs by Flieg, Colin and others, Amusing stories by various nameless persons including: "The time I stepped on two annoying guys in Lochac", "The time I turned out to have mugged a guy because I forgot to tell him the goblet was mine", "The ballad of Slappy the Wonder Kelt". In addition, we had a surprise visitation from an actual Evil Clown of Silveroak, who regaled us with a variety of Slanderous stories of the Baron's days in Caid, sightings of crazy drunk man, and a scientific report of a new species of Alcohol Golem.

The winners of the coveted Markee were David the Mad Fiddler, Kellyn Firesinger, and Hugh Piper who in various combinations performed quite a few excellent songs, particularly scoring points for "The Parking Lot Song".

The Principality of the Mists Spring Coronet -- 2001

Several Westermark baron's battled in this year's lists for the honor of their ladies! Viscount Chad Bitor fought for Lady Evaine ni MacGreger & Sir Andrew Shea Forestborn fought for Mistress Juliana of Tregony.

Evain notes: these photos obviously concentrate on Chad's bouts, and then the finals after...

    Viscount Chad Bitor:

1st Round vs. Christopher 2nd Round vs. Brian of Glastonbury

    3rd Round vs.
    Master Mikhail Justinian
This should have been 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounds, but they
double-killed twice - with the same sequence of moves! The third time was the charm though.

4th Round vs. Dimitri 5th Round vs. Lord Charles the Traveler (1st loss)

    6th Round vs.
    Sir Parlan MacGillvray
7th Round vs. Sir Andrew Shay Forestborn (2nd loss)

8th Round: Sir Andrew Shay Forestborn vs. Lord Colin MacLear (1st loss)
Chad Bitor and Juliana watching Andrew's bout

9th Round: Sir Andrew Shay Forestborn vs.
    Sir Parlan MacGillvray (2nd loss)
Sir Parlan MacGillvray, fighting for the honor of Lady Arianwen o Aberystwyth, was the victor beating Lord Colin MacLear in two very long bouts!
